Non-Stop

Some time ago I did a review featuring some of Liam Neeson's better contributions to the action genre in the run-up to the release of Non-Stop, where he plays an air-marshall trying to prevent a mysterious person from killing everyone onboard a plane one by one.

Generally speaking Neeson has always proven to be quite reliable with these types of high-concept films that pit him against the odds and here is no different but it's a close call due to a weak script. He is introduced as the typical 'rusty agent on the verge of losing his career' but once the story gets going, the film moves beyond that cliche as the body-count starts to rise.

However, Non-Stop isn't quite the action thriller it wants to be and while it is engaging for the most part, the story never progresses as well as how other films such as Flightplan or Executive Decision have managed to do. We do get an interesting supporting cast that includes Julianne Moore, Corey Stoll, Scoot McNairy, Michelle Dockery and Lupita Nyong'o but there is an element of tension missing that undercuts the story. The pay-off that the whole thing has been building towards is also unrewarding given the amount of red-herrings the film goes through to reach the end and will result in a somewhat unsatisfying experience.

Despite this, Non-Stop is still fun to watch as Neeson goes on a rampage to find the culprit before time runs out. While this is not his strongest action film, it is far from his worst. Since my review of his previous films, I have also seen Taken 2 which has to be one of his most dullest, disjointed and disappointing action offerings in a long while. Please avoid that and stick to this if you are looking for another Neeson action flick.
