Homeland season 7

Following an exciting sixth season that saw Homeland find some stable footing as Carrie helped to save President Elect Keane from an assassination attempt but then betrayed at the final hurdle, season seven could not have had a stronger set-up as the drama continued. 'Continued' being a key word here after the series has battled to hold onto its audience that suffered from the results of writing/creative differences early on in the second and third season but somehow the show has moved from strength to strength in recent years.

Now more eerily relevant than ever before, season seven tackled many topical issues from fake news, controversial presidents and troublesome relations with Russia intervening to cause chaos. It was a bold move when the season was written but stands-out today more than ever in light of recent events. However, any half-baked show can try to be topical but the great minds behind this season managed to find that special ingredient that kept me invested all the way through. From Carrie's personal problems with her family that see the series at its most tender to shady political assassinations on the world stage, the visual scope has never been as engaging as this.

Having been elected as the first female President, Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) is put to the test with how to respond to the attempt on her life while her personal life remains under fire from political activists. I'd usually start explaining the story from Carrie's perspective but this really is Marvel's season and is truly fantastic to watch, as are the entire cast. I wouldn't want to spoil anything as trailers usually do but this season alone should entice anyone tempted to watch this show. It handles political drama in a way that blows House of Cards out of the water and is paced so very well that it becomes addictive to watch.

My only criticism would be the truly dismal opening titles that take lines from the last season in order to provide extra emotional weight but just come off as cringe-worthy. Otherwise there is nothing here that I would skip making season seven a very easy experience to recommend.
