Landman season 2

The first season of Landman came out of nowhere from the mind of Taylor Sheridan and quickly became a hit new show on Paramount+. It took the world of Texas oil drillers and made a highly watchable show out of it, even if it suffered from devoting a little too much time to Billy Bob Thornton's wife and daughter which dragged the series the out. Nonetheless, a second season was greenlit and, following Thornton's clash with the cartel and Andy Garcia's shady businessman, I was very excited to see where the show would go next...

Season two sees Thornton's Tommy Norris trying to keep the company afloat as Demi Moore's widow starts to uncover troubling secrets from her departed husband who has left things in a precarious situation. There's the opportunity to expand but Norris is uncomfortable given his experience last season with Garcia's character, and he has to juggle having his father now on the scene as the family dynamic continues to unfold.

To cut straight to the point; I found season two to very disappointing and missing any of the tension from the last season. The whole thing feels much more like a melodrama as we go through the motions without any sense of direction. The cartel provided danger to the whole operation last time around and they are totally out of the picture here, leaving us with very little excitement to go on. Instead, its the couples having drinks together, the daughter going to college and more painfully drawn out scenes with the son and his partner.

Landman season 2 feels like padding or as if Sheridan knew he was leaving Paramount but was contractually obligated to continue the story for someone else to pick-up with the greenlit third season coming around the corner. Sadly, there just isn't the same spark this time around. The show still has its moments and the cast are all great but this felt far too slow, and will see the show lose some fans as a result. If you could handle the family drama in the last season then I'd say there's just enough to recommend this but if that was too much then, shoot, you all outta luck, son.
