The Drama

Sometimes marketing can be intentionally vague in the attempts to capture your attention, and it would be mission accomplished if that was the aim with The Drama for me. This film from A24 came out of nowhere and was seemingly about a wedding, which isn't far from the reality but I'll be doing my best to avoid any spoilers as this is one film you will want to go in blind for.

The story... follows a perfectly happy couple who met in a New York café, she's American and he's British, and their wedding is now fast approaching. All seems well until a kink in the road creates more than a little drama...

Directed by indie filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli, The Drama is a tightly paced, incredibly uncomfortable but highly engrossing 100 minute drama which really took me by surprise. The leads with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are perfect in their roles here and Borgli's direction is on-point throughout. It does go into some areas though which won't be for everyone but if you enjoyed the angst ridden rollercoaster of Uncut Gems or any good thriller then there's plenty here for you.

The Drama is an excellent film and I didn't think it would be for me when I first saw those posters. It is one I wish I saw in a packed cinema for the audience reactions but streaming at home will not diminish its impact. Just avoid the trailers and give this a shot; you might not want to rewatch but it is one I can so very easily recommend for a very gripping experience.
