Juror #2

The legendary Clint Eastwood has made many interesting films in front of and behind the camera, and his most recent film as director in what might be sadly his final film, Juror #2, caught my interest when watching the trailer. However, it was given a very brief theatrical window and was then quickly relegated to streaming all within a short space of time. Nonetheless, I was determined to watch this and wanted to see what Eastwood could bring to the well worn courtroom drama.

Even with a substantial running time of just under two hours, it is hard to set the scene for the film without giving away any spoilers but to summarise Juror #2, the story follows a soon-to-be-father called in for jury duty. The accused allegedly killed his wife after going to a bar on a rainy night but things soon take a twist as we learn the case might not be so simple.

Modern film trailers are guilty of giving away too much and the trailer for Juror #2 is testament to that. The trailer was great; it had me intrigued to see where the story would go but unfortunately it almost spoiled the entire plot therefore I spent my time enjoying the film yet hoped a new twist would unravel. Alas, that wasn't to be the case and so I strongly recommend avoiding the trailer as this is one film best going into without too much prior knowledge.

What I will give away though is that Eastwood and his team have created a very enjoyable drama, that unfolds at a steady rate, and is boosted by an excellent cast. One or two minor blips towards the end did marginally disrupt the experience but it is otherwise a fairly solid film. I'm not sure it's one I will rush to see again, as the story will be best suited to one viewing, or is quite the grand, fitting final chapter in Eastwood's directorial career but I can still recommend Juror #2.
