The Terminal List: Dark Wolf season 1

Do I list this as season one, which it technically is, or season two? Either way, The Terminal List was a highly enjoyable action series on Prime and it left me hungry for more. Three years later and we have the prequel series The Terminal List: Dark Wolf at long last and I was thrilled to see what we would get here, even if I was more interested in a continuation than learning about what came before. Regardless, hopefully this would provide more of the same great entertainment after some waiting around.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf sees James Reece (Chris Pratt) and Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) back when they were fighting together as part of the US Navy SEALs in Iraq. They have a great squad but Edwards soon comes to blows with his superior officers and finds himself discharged. He has a wife at home waiting to see him but, not ready to call it quits just yet, he takes up a shady offer "to do some good" off the grid.

I went into this show with some high expectations and thankfully it did not disappoint in the slightest. In fact, I might even say this series surpasses the original and is a blast from start to finish across all seven episodes. Watching each episode was always a pleasure and never a chore as it was mercifully devoid of any filler and instead offers thrilling action, a tight script and great performances from across the cast, particularly from Kitsch who shines here now in the lead. New to series, Tom Hopper also stands out as the wise voice of reason, Raife Hastings, and Pratt makes for great return as a more optimistic Reece before the tragic events of the original series.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf won't win awards for any ground-breaking advancements in storytelling but it is a hell of a lot of fun and I will certainly look forward to seeing where the series goes to next as it connects the dots between the two seasons. Putting aside the relentless amount of adverts I saw on Prime, this is an easy one to recommend for fans of the original and newcomers alike. If you're waiting for Reacher, then you could do a lot worse than watch this.
