Game of Thrones season 8 episode 2
Such is the way I make a number of predictions of the next episode to follow, and so few even come close to the end result. Game of Thrones' second episode in the final season was one of much tension, similar to the trench sequences in a WW1 film, as the dead move closer to Winterfell and our heroes gather together before all hell breaks loose. Spoilers again!
Set entirely in the North, the episode begins with Jaime under trial from the mother of dragons and the northern people but is spared a cell thanks to Brienne repaying the debt she owes him. Why Jaime stubbornly refuses to explain why he killed the mad king remains mystery but he's now free to join them. Also joining the crew and trying to make amends was Theon and it seems if his new relationship is go by then their past troubles are clearly water under the bridge. A few more reunions, Jon revealing to Daenerys the truth, one of the most awkward sex scenes in this series and Jaime knighting Brienne thereabout summarise this episode, and it was great to watch as a fan.
Jon revealing the truth was perhaps the most 'TV' moment of the episode, where an important piece of information is given out but something interrupts the moment before the other character can properly react. We still had just enough of her reaction to see the troubled reaction on her face, and maybe this just felt undercooked because everything else was just so entertaining, particularly that fireplace scene.
But the real question left at the end of this episode is who will die?! The show has toyed with our expectations before, and it seems our star-crossed lovers with Grey Work and Missandei make an easy target for the ruthless author. Jorah, who I enjoyed watching argue with his significantly younger cousin, has had a very good run and I would be sorry to see him go, as I would for the rest of the cast. Online speculations think Jaime might die but I saw his knighting of Brienne as a fitting conclusion for her character leaving poor Tormund alone. Theon, Ed from the Wall, Davos, Jon's direworf, Poddrick perhaps, and also Beric seem like their stories could all find a fitting conclusion here.
Whatever happens the story will continue and surely some must survive for when the fight reaches Cersei. Needless to say, episode three will be a game changer and that Monday will be a day when people abandon social media once more to avoid spoilers.
